I Love to dress up…

It’s been my way of self-expression since I can remember. I used to go to school in princess dresses and cowboy boots, and now my work uniform is a silk gown.

I learned to sew from my mother. We were always creative together, and as an only child, making things was how I kept busy. It wasn’t until I moved to Germany for school, however, that I really started to sew seriously. I think it was a coping mechanism. It was a piece of home that I could recreate in a foreign place.

In the beginning, I sewed the same three dress patterns over and over again in all different fabrics and prints, because I knew they fit me and why mess with a good thing? But eventually that got old and I began to branch out.

I started to learn how to fit patterns to my body, and what silhouettes looked good and flatter my curves. It was a revelation! Instead of my body fitting into clothes, the clothes were fitting my body.

Now, sewing has become a game. How far can I push the envelope? What new techniques do I want to learn with the next project? What new materials do I want to use and how do I use them? How daring can I be?
